3 Surprising Tips

A lot of the advice for dealing with acid reflux is pretty standard but there were a couple of tips I've found less frequently that really helped me a lot and even a couple I developed on my own. Here they are:

  • Give up mint / menthol: mint relaxes the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES) which is supposed to keep food in the stomach. If possible, even change out your minty toothpaste.

  • Make sure your upper body is vertical before burping. From personal experience, I found that heartburn was much more likely if I burped while lying down.

  • Avoid bending over after eating as this puts pressure on your stomach.
